The latest instalment, talk 6, took us from Rakesole Farm to Ladwood, Standard Hill, South Lodge, Wick, Acrise Place, Winterage, Shuttlesfield, Mill Down, Bereforstal and ending at Lower Court, Ottinge. Talks 7 and 8 are in the pipeline and will complete our journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have worked with Elham School on the Annual History Prize, the subject this year being The Elham Valley Railway Line. Following a talk to the whole school, the children were asked to write essays, poems, draw pictures or make collages, and one student from each of the four class groups was awarded a prize of books. The best of the 4 winners was also awarded The Andr\u00e9 Sladden Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the children in the two older class groups were also given an historical guided tour of the Village.<br>A recent talk by David Brocklehurst MBE, of The Kent Battle of Britain Hawkinge Museum, entitled The Battle of Britain in The Elham Valley, was very well attended and received. Our next talk is entitled Archaeology in the Elham Valley, delivered by Dr Andrew Richardson who is the Finds Liaison Officer for Kent Archaeology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to be a member of our Society to attend the talks, but it is cheaper on the door if you are. At only \u00a310 per head for annual membership, it is also excellent value.
